St Alban's Catholic Primary School

A whole school Easter

Religious education is central to the life of our school community and reaches out into all aspects of it and at all times. The Catholic Faith is presented to all pupils through the experience of living, working and praying together; through the Scriptures; the Liturgy and through the Doctrine.

Topics follow a four-yearly cycle and are taught over a period of approximately four weeks. Each class in the school studies the same topic during the same half term appropriate to the age of the children. Hence when the school gathers for communal worship, the assemblies and services correlate to the topic being studied by all. (The diagram for the Here I Am shows the various themes studied.)

The children are prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in year 3. Their teachers work closely with our priests, parish catechists and of course, the parents. Together, we nurture the growth of the life of Christ within our pupils and develop their ability to recognise and respect Christ in themselves and their neighbour and thence to act in accordance with God's will.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of collective worship, but as a Catholic school the Governors would hope that this is not the case and parents should discuss the matter with the headteacher before doing so.

Each term the topics focus on a basic question

Autumn Beginnings/Friends/Preparations

Spring Special People/Meals/Good and Evil

Summer Messengers Witnesses/Change/Treasures

Each of these is explored through themes:

The Church, The Sacraments, Christian Living
